Un disco de heavy metal en la lista de los 20 más vendidos de la historia. Un gran mérito para sus autores. El llamado ‘Black Album’ (por su portada totalmente oscura) se editó un mes antes que 'Nevermind', de Nirvana. Más valor aún para este disco, que logró voluminosas ventas sin sonar al tan de moda 'grunge'. Todo lo comercial que puede ser un álbum de heavy metal está aquí: un sonido pulido gracias a las labores de Bob Rock en la producción, canciones con estribillos, y hasta su balada ‘Nothing else matters’. Son unos Metallica domesticados, lejos de aquellos intuitivos y salvajes primeros discos. Es un grupo más cerebral que pasional, actitud que ya no han dejado. Un nuevo punto de partida en la carrera de Metallica que buscaba llegar a nuevos públicos.
